Mission Statement
Positive Attitude Youth Center was created to fill the spiritual void that is found today in
every community in our country. The Center strives to enable children and young
adults to mature physically, emotionally and spiritually and academically. Through its
programming, the Center hopes to see a stronger, more peaceful community with
less crime, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, gang violence, high school dropout and
family abuse.
Origin
Founded in 1995, the Positive Attitude Youth Center is a Christian Organization
seeking to enable children and young adults to mature physically, emotionally and
spiritually. Since June 1995, the center has provided a variety of programs for children
and youth (between the ages of 6 and 17), and their parents. These programs include
after school tutoring, recreational activities and events that involve the whole family.
The children have the opportunity to participate in a summer program which includes
sports, choir, Bible Study and field trips. Parents are able to attend GED classes,
budgeting, parenting classes and Bible Study. Most of the children who attend the
Center are from low-income single parent homes. Some are from neglectful homes. A
few line at the city night shelter with their mothers. They are black, white and hispanic.
Some come from homes with loving parents who desire a safe, loving and nurturing
environment for their children.
Many local schools and social service agencies are anxious to connect children with
the Positive Attitude Youth Center, for it works. Children who attend the Center achieve
better grades and exhibit better attitudes and behavior at school.
The Directors
Rev. Kerry F. Richmond is the founder of Positive Attitude Youth Center and the Pastor
of New Life Community Church located in Burlington, NC. Pastor Kerry received Jesus
Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 16 in 1979. In 1981 Kerry attended Shaw
University and continued his Criminal Justice degree at Alamance Community
College and NC A&T State University.
Pastor Kerry is known for his love and compassionate teachings about our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ; having a strong heart to see families know God by developing a
strong relationship with Jesus Christ; developing strong communities by preaching
the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and life changing teaching of God's Word. One of Pastor
Kerry's greatest fulfillments is to see people walk into the newness of life through
Christ Jesus, not just a form but the power that comes with it.
Born and raised in Burlington, NC he is married to Eunice L. Watlington and the proud
father of four children, Tasha, Miranda, Stassia and Christopher.
